Tasty Tuesday~ Indian/Eskimo/Anybody Fry Bread

OK I don't know which culture actually started this AWESOME fry bread but I am adopting it and making it EVERYBODY'S Fry bread! I have had it before moving here but we see it at potlucks around here a lot. Fry bread, I have been told is an Eskimo traditional bread and then I heard from the Athabaskan Indians here that it is a Indian traditional bread, So I am guessing it is traditional to both people groups and after seeing how easy it is to make and how delicious it is as a taco I am totally adding it to the African/Puerto Rican traditional bread category! Our Family is always up for adding new cultures to our mixed Culture family cuisine! Fry bread is very loveable! I even like it better for tacos then tortillas and that is coming from a girl who's was raise on Mexican food. I LOVE TORTILLAS but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fry bread! It is fast becoming one of our families favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert foods. There are many things you can do with Fry bread. Tacos are our favorite and then have one covered in honey and cinnamon or dusted with Powder sugar for dessert. Trust me! It is delicious! It is one dish that when Keith calls from his office and asks what I am cooking for lunch and I say Fry Bread Tacos, he is fast on his way! Try it out and add your own yummy stuff to it! I was trying to take pictures of making this bread and all the different steps but I got to the frying step and then we started making them into tacos and eating them so I never got the finished product because they got eaten!  Sorry! But make your own and you will see they are a fast moving food. They move fast from the table to your mouth and are gone in a snap.=)

Indian/ Eskimo/Puerto Rican/ African........Worldly Fry bread!  =)
3 cups Flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp Baking Powder
3/4 cup milk
1/4-1/2 cup water.(enough to make dough come together)
Oil or Crisco for Frying

Stir Flour, Baking Powder, Salt together. Stir in Milk till it comes together as much as possible. Then add water to get it to come together well. Cover in a bowl and rest 30-40 minutes. Heat 1-2 inches of oil in skillet over medium high heat. Grab a plumb size ball of dough and press flat with fingers. (what I have found is you press it down and let it rest while you do the other balls and then when you come back to it it will spread better. Press into about a 8 inch circle. It doesn't have to be perfect. Then fry it on each side till they are golden brown on both sides. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel.

For Tacos top bread with:
Meat
Beans
sour cream
cheese,
lettuce
tomatoes
salsa
guacamole
ANYTHING you like in a taco!

For Dessert:
~Dust it with Powder sugar
~Drizzle Honey and Cinnamon
~ Or Dust it with Cinnamon, Sugar, Honey and Powder sugar =)
~ Make a Fruit Taco
~ serve with Jam or Nutella!! OH YEAH!!

The Options are endless!  Try it out! I love these!
