In the ear pull, two people wrap a small string around their ears. When the referee says go they pull as hard as the can and who ever looses the string off their ear is the loser. There was a lot of blood and pain in this event. One guy had to go get stitches in his ear. To me I like my ears just the way they are! But the reason for this event is the pain is what frostbite feel is like on your ear and the string gets your blood circulating through your ear again and your frost bite would not be as bad. Here is a picture of how the ear pull is done. The older man on the left actually won and got the gold metal for the whole event. I just don't know how in the world you prepare your ears for that much pain!

How many Pull-ups can your ears do?
Sounds like a silly question, but if you ever get a chance to go to the WEIO~World Eskimo Indian Olympics...GO! It was awesome to go watch different events that the Alaskan Eskimos and Alaskan Indians do. Each game or event shows different aspects of life here in Alaska. There are events such a the Blanket toss which was used on the coast. The village would get around a blanket and toss a person in the middle as high as they could. When they would toss them the person would look out to sea, to see if any of the whale hunting parties where coming back. There are events that involve jumping and high kicking, ear weights, neck pulls and the one I grossed out watch, the ear pull.

The neck pull symbolizes the way a walrus walks and pulls while they are fighting. The woman on the right in the black shirt won Gold and the woman on the left in the green shirt got silver.
