Anyone know how to Prime a pump?

Well for two nights we stay at a friends cabin in Salcha. It was such a beautiful cabin and in a quiet spot. It was nice to get out and relax. Kaden thought it was fun because we had to "camp out". Meaning we were sleeping on air mattresses on the floor in the living room. He thought it great fun and so did we until my air mattress popped and then Isaiah and I were left to sleep on the floor. It was a cold evening and we had no fire or heater to keep us warm, so we resorted to heating up the oven and letting it heat up the place. It was a fun adventure! But the best part of our time at the cabin was the water. It is a dry cabin, meaning there is no running water. So you have to flush toilets with a bucket, heat up your own water for Showers, and Pump your own water. No big deal Keith and I have done that before .....so we thought. How hard can it be to prime a pump? Surely not that hard. Pour the water in and pump like crazy till it starts to flow and continue pumping till you fill up what needs to be filled up. So Keith and I brought 4 jugs of water to start with. Well by the time we realized that priming a pump is harder then we thought we used up 3 of our jugs. Then we figured we should save the 1 jug of water till we got into town to fill up the jugs that we wasted trying to get the dumb pump flowing. I told Keith after pouring that much water into the pump we probably filled up the well and it should overflow soon. hehaha Kaden kept telling us " Mommy, Daddy, you are not doing it right?" I know my son is a genius! After the evening, we had a good laugh.
