We are a International Family. My kids don't know if they are Zambian, Kenyan, Puerto Rican or what they are. They are spoken to in many different languages. I just tell them they are a mix of cultures. I love how they ask if they can listen to African music or Puerto Rican music so they can dance. They prefer that music over kid music. I love that my kids consider Alaska, Zambia and Puerto Rico HOME! And Kaden asks a lot "When are we going to that home?" referring to Zambia or Puerto Rico. As a international family we celebrate holidays from our other homes. Keith, growing up celebrated 3 Kings day in Puerto Rico. That is the day when the 3 Kings brought their gifts to Jesus. The kids gather grass to feed camels, though finding grass here in Galena in the middle of winter,to feed their camels is a bit hard! They might have to settle for some cabbage frozen broccoli. 3 Kings day is the day most Puerto Ricans get their Christmas presents. I like this idea so that Christmas remains for Jesus and his birthday. Christmas remains a day of giving and not receiving. Yes we did give the kids a few presents on Christmas, We are still an American family, but they mostly received the gifts from grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. Our kids will get most of their presents today.
If you look around our house, you will see a mix of cultures and countries from our travels. Artwork, carvings and crafts from countries that we have visited. Different foods we like to eat from different countries. I love the diversity! Even my Christmas decorations have a international flare! Here are some manger scenes from around the world!
