"On the Seventh day of Christmas my True Love gave to me... 7 Swans a swimming"
I don't know if any of you have ever seen a swan swimming, but they truly are a BEAUTIFUL bird! Here in Galena we have Swans come in the spring and stay till winter approaches, then they fly south. Sometimes I wish I could be like a swan and head out before winter gets its grip on the land. But since I am not a very good flyer, even in an airplane, I will stick to the ground and wait for them to return.
The symbolism of the Seven Swans in the song refer to the 7 gifts of the Holy spirit. Gifts that are given to us as Christians. Everyone receives a gift. We don't all get the same gifts and we don't all get ALL the gifts either. The 7 gifts referred to in the song are Prophecy, Ministry/serving, Teaching, Exhortation of encouragement, Giving, Leading, and Compassion/mercy.
In Romans 12:4-8 it says
"4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."
I love how this verse shows how we are all part of the body of Christ but we all have different functions and tasks! And each of those tasks should be down to the best of your abilities for the Glory of God!
If you were to buy 7 beautiful swans, you would be coughing up $1000 a piece! That is a bit pricy but I guess if you really LOVE someone, money is not a issue.... Keith YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY ME ANY SWANS!! I will just watch them swim around the pond in the wild when they appear in the spring! The cost of this song is going up EVERY DAY.
