From Sea to Shining Sea: Part One

After our trip, I now know EXACTLY what that song means, because I have crossed the ENTIRE US of A, including a few territory's of Canada. I have seen the spacious skies, the amber waves of grain, the purple mountains majesty along with green, grey and snow covered mountains. I even saw the wilderness! Our trek from Alaska to North Carolina was a LONG one but a very VERY fun one.(even with a 6 year old and a 3 year old) It was a fast trip because it was work related so we could not veer off our course too much but we did get to enjoy some sights along the way.

During this trip we picked up a new hitchhiker that decided to travel along with us. His name is Flat Stanley. Kaden got to read some of his books for school last year and he loved all the adventures he went on so we decided to start our very own journey with Flat Stanley. He seemed to be good at jumping in all the pictures so look close you may see him in many of our pictures.

We started, of course, in Galena Alaska. One of the hardest places I have ever had to leave. There were lots and lots of people at the airport to send us off. Lets just say it was a very emotional crowd in the waiting area. Probably not as emotional as the 2 boys and 1 mommy who cried all the way to Fairbanks. Galena was a wonderful time in our life but that chapter in our adventure closed and we are opening a new one. Thankfully the friends and family we made there will go with us! We love you all and will miss you! Here is part one of our journey

First stop was dinner with friends at PAGODAS!!!!! Can't leave Alaska with out one more plate of their Walnut Shrimp(which I just discovered the recipe for and will be posting it on my Bundu Baking blog right after this.)

Guy Ate Here... and So did Flat Stanley.
Picked up our "new to us" Jeep. Loaded up the bubble and headed out!
Flat Stanley REALLY REALLY wanted to meet Santa so being the good host and tour guides we are we stopped by one last time before heading out. Part of me wants to think it was the boys wanting a candy cane, but I am positively sure it was the fact that Keith wanted to see Santa one last time!

I am going to miss this Jolly Old man! How many people can say that "Santa knows my name and prays for us"? Not many but I know this man does! Now Flat Stanley even has met him!
Flat Stanley meeting up with some of the elves.
 Flat Stanley met the reindeer

After heading out we didn't get to far down the road where we came to a good fishing hole. Keith had been waiting for years to take the boys to a great place like this and it was exciting. The boys caught their first fish and then they were hooked. Any time we saw a small lake on the drive they wanted to stop and fish. But that is the fun of a road trip, stopping on the way to enjoy some of the sights!
Isaiah's first fish! he wasn't to sure of what to do with it and was totally fine with us throwing it back into the water!

 Kaden's first Fish!
Flat Stanley decided he wanted to break the rules and walk on the Alaskan Pipe Line.
Never get tired of these views!
 What a beautiful drive!

We stopped off in Tok Alaska to visit with some dear friends the Dials. Sadly Alan was not there but Babs and the boys were and we had a blast just enjoying talking, fishing and talking about Africa. Babs even made us Rusks that we all devoured! I need to post that recipe on my blog! But We really enjoyed seeing their work running a training center. What a special family!
Rusk and tea, Breakfast can't get more African than that!

The boys playing outside
Aunt Babs took us to a lake to go fishing. Didn't catch anything but we had a great hike!
We also visited the Tanana River. Flat Stanley did too
