Just Enjoy the Drive

Amarillo and El Paso were about the only directions that we didn't hit on our trip around Texas, mostly because I don't know anyone who lives there! But It was such a wonderful time with my boys traveling around the state. I do love a good road trip where you are not in a hurry and can enjoy the drive. One of my favorite quotes from the movie Cars is when Sally is telling Lightening about country roads "Well, the road didn't cut through the land like that interstate. It moved with the land, it rose, it fell, it curved. Cars didn't drive on it to make great time. They drove on it to have a great time." And that is what my boys and I did! We had a great time. Stopping when we saw something cool, visiting friends and family, enjoying the wildlife and landscapes and stopping at EVERY BUC-EES we saw! There is just something about filling up your car, OK compared to the $8 a gallon here in Galena, Texas gas is cheaper but road trips make gas is still expensive, but I love the feeling of having a full tank of gas, having your stash of snacks and drinks and heading out. Thankfully we had my IPAD full of music, Adventures in Odyssey books, and movies to entertain them. Those movies came in handy in Dallas and Houston traffic. The ABC game and any other game I could think of was played over and over and over again but hey that is what I remember about road trips with my parents. Except my dad was not big on stopping till we got to our destinations, but I remembered the fun we always had! Isaiah mentioned EVERY BRIDGE that we saw and mooed at every cow. As I said in the previous post, there are a lot of cows in Texas. Trust me I heard MOOOOO A LOT!  But it was an adventure I enjoyed sharing with my boys. I hope when people take trips with their kids that they take time to ENJOY it! The destination is not only the fun you can have. The getting there can be a blast too! Just take Sally from Cars advice and have a good time!
Here are some of our Friends and Family we got to run into along the way!

Bernice, who used to work for USFWS and with Keith before she retired.
(it was really bright, so Kaden is trying to hold his eyes open)
 Cousins in Corpus
We went to Uncle Dwayne Parker's house in Cuero, Kaden got to help feed his cows and bulls.
We also got to have a nice hotdog roast with Uncle Dwayne
While in Cuero we got to stay with Aunt Tina! SO MUCH FUN!

Went to visit my Aunt Tillie in Spring Branch. Aunt Nita taught Kaden and Isaiah how to drive the golf cart. Kaden felt like big stuff!
Playing at Aunt Nita's park playground
 Hiking around with Aunt Nita

These two lovely ladies are some I went to school with in Burnet Texas in 9th grade. Crystal on the right played basketball with me! Crystal and her twin Dana on the left are 2 ladies that I actually keep up with. It was fun to have lunch with them when we drove through Burnet. Fun to catch up! Miss you girls!
My kids hit it off pretty well with some of Crystal and Dana's kids. And we got to eat at Storms! I love mixing their Dr. Pepper with their special syrup
One place I DID NOT stop at was the Christmas Shoppe! Can't believe I drove RIGHT BY IT with out stopping!!!! But I saved Keith a lot of money by doing so! I took a picture to prove my thoughtfulness. Your welcome Keith!
