First Jack-O-Lantern

When you pack a carry-on for the airplane what do you normally put in it? A book to read, a extra set of clothes, snacks...... Traveling to a small village like Galena.... You put a pumpkin and a cantaloupe. Or at least I did! I just could not resist. Keith told me there was NO WAY that it would fit but I made it fit! My boys have never carved a pumpkin and I really wanted to be able to do that with them. It was awesome to see their face when I took the pumpkin out of my backpack. It was priceless..... Then my son told me "Mom we don't want to carve it. Let's just cook it and eat it!" Guess he has learned the value of fruit! Thankfully we live in a place where I use the front porch at this time as a freezer. So I thought if we carve it hopefully we will still be able to eat it later. Not like the south where you carve it and in 2 days it is moldy and collapsing. We will see if my theory works. We did have a great time carving. Kaden drew what he wanted the face to look at and I tried to carve it like he wanted. Isaiah helped me take out the guts. Kaden was not to thrilled with how slimy it was. We did cook the seeds and ate those.
