Well it is March!

Well it is March and I don't know where February went. Keith had meetings in Anchorage and came back for the weekend. He found out by the time you account for Hotel, Food, and Car it was cheaper to fly home for the weekend and see us. Kaden and I were excited for that. He had to leave again Monday March 1st for another week long meeting.

We had a good weekend together. Kenton, Connie, Jacob and Kaitlyn came over for dinner Sunday night for Tamales and Enchiladas. It was nice to have company and we watched the closing ceremony's of the Olympics. We finally got Dish network and I got to watch the Hockey game between USA vs Canada. Talk about a GREAT GAME!!!

This week I learned some new things about surviving in Alaska.
1) Conserve water as much as you can. Short showers like at RVA are coming back to me. Wearing clothes more then once is normal since you wear layers anyways.
2) It is so hard to want to get out of bed when the temperature outside is -35, but on Sundays it is much easier knowing we can get together at a great church!
3) ALWAYS DRY YOUR HAIR BEFORE GOING OUT IN -35 degrees. If not it will freeze and crack. I still can't figure out how beards on men don't freeze off.
4) Always leave about 15 minutes early to leave enough time to get on all the snow gear you have to wear when it is so cold outside. Long underwear, trousers, Snow boots, Snow pants, Under Shirt, Fleece shirt, Parka, scarf, gloves, Face Mask, hat.
Then I have to get Kaden dressed! He has the same amount of Clothes I have just smaller therefore much harder to get on him. Then you get to the place and have to take most of that off!
5) Because of #4 you only go someplace when absolutely necessary.
6) Breathe through your nose not your mouth. Your nose hair may freeze off but your teeth will not hurt.
7) Hollywood has some obsession with making movies about Alaska Sled dogs that are always Huskies. I have not seen one sled dog that is a husky. All the sled dogs I have seen are mutts. Dogs in Alaska are tough, most people leave their dogs outside even in the -50 degree weather. Our Daisy is spoiled rotten I guess since she gets to sleep in the warm house and we even have doggie boots for her feet. The Ididarod is about to start so I will post pictures of the dog sleds when they get here.

This week Kaden and I did go to our Library for a Book-a-thon that they call the IdidaREAD. It is a reading competition between classes at the school but they give free books to every kid in the school and community. Kaden and I got to spend the evening eating pizza, and reading with other parents and Kids in the community.

The other AWESOME thing that happened this week was we received packages from our family and I even got two from Keith. Did you know that Sunny D Smooth can be shipped to Galena Alaska? I LOVE SUNNY D Smooth. I know it is probably not even real Orange juice but to me it is my FAVORITE!!! Thanks to Keith for sending me some orange juice! We also received some yummy cheese and chocolates from Mami and Papi. My mom sent some candy too and we enjoyed it too. Thanks for the Packages everyone! We love all the goodies! Kaden loves to go to the post office and check for packages and letters. Anyways, that is all I have to say right now, but more will come later!
