Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge

Welcome to our Refuge! Here are some things you will see when visiting our home!
This is what we call The Lodge. It used to be a community hall where many community activities took place. It is owned by the state and sadly is not in use any more because of lack of money for renovations. It is a beautiful building and the Light house is actually an old smoke stack in disguise!

Lake Mattamuskeet. It's about 17 miles wide across but only about 2-4 feet deep all the way across! That is why the ducks and geese love it. They eat the vegetation on the bottom.

This is the way we spend our evening. Eating outside on our porch and enjoying fresh melons and fruit. While the kids ride their bikes on the road.

 The boys love it here!
I love the view from my yard

  1. Yes, a beautiful place to live indeed. Sometimes we forget how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful place. I've lived here all of my life and have enjoyed being able to walk on the refuge and take in all of it's beauty. I can remember many enjoyable times spent in the Lodge. I do hope that restoration will start up again. What a great place to be able to host events.
